Cheapo Presents: Your Band Live!

IN STORE PERFORMANCE GUIDELINES AND INFORMATION

The concept behind “In Store” performances at cheapo is to create a
live musical experience for our customers as they shop and to
support local musicians by providing exposure and a chance to
promote their recordings. We want to create a fun shopping
environment and offer something different from the recorded music
that we usually play.

Chances are you have not performed in a retail setting before. Keep
in mind cheapo is a record store, not a club, a bar, an art space, a
warehouse or any other sort of venue that you may be used to
playing. Most of the customers in the store will not be here
specifically to hear you play. We will need to interact with our
customers and conduct business during your set so obviously volume is an issue.
cheapo will control the volume of the performance and we expect you to cooperate.
If you do not you will be asked to leave.

There are some styles of music that just do not work for performance
in a large retail space like cheapo. Hardcore, black metal, rap,
experimental noise, or offensive lyrical or performance content will
not work for an in-store. You will be asked to leave if you engage in
any rude or lewd language or behavior. cheapo is a business that
appeals to people of all ages; please use discretion when choosing songs.

At the Uptown store we have a large stage for either acoustic or amplified performances.

At the St Paul store we only have a small acoustic stage in our coffee shop. Our larger stage should be available in June.

PARKING AND LOAD IN:

At the Uptown store you can park in our lot facing Lagoon Ave and load in through the back door.

At the St Paul store you can park anywhere in our lot or on the north side of the building and load in through the front door.

Under normal circumstances parking should not be a problem
however for unusually large vehicles such as a truck or bus please let
us know in advance. Plan to arrive about 30 minutes before start
time. Upon arrival check in with the manager on duty and he or she
will open the door for you. Be advised that cheapo employees are
not responsible for helping the band load in or out.

SOUND SYSTEM:

Our current PA at the Uptown store includes a 20-channel Allen & Heath powered mixer with a single monitor mix and 2 EV monitors. We provide 4 DI boxes,11 mics and 11 mic stands.

If you require any additional equipment you will need to provide it
yourself. No pyrotechnic displays are allowed.

YOUR PERFORMANCE:

cheapo will not introduce the performer. You may introduce yourself
and announce songs but if you don’t have an attentive audience,
please keep the interactive dialogue to a minimum. Sets in Uptown
begin at 5:30 and end no later than 6:30. Acoustic sets at our coffee shop in St Paul begin at 7:00 and must end by 9:00. Feel free to plug your CD’s
as many times as you want during your set.

When you perform at cheapo you also agree to have your
performance video taped and posted on our website for fans to view.
By playing in the store you’ll also become part of the live music
archive on cheapodiscs.com

We do prefer that you currently have CD’s on consignment with us
or that your disc be readily available through our distributors. If you
are not a consignment artist please send a preview copy of your disc
along with your application. If you are interested in consigning discs
with us please download the consignment .pdf for information. If you
agree to these simple terms we look forward to receiving your
